👨👩👧👧
Hey there!
My wife and I are both educators at heart, so we spend a lot of time thinking about raising our two daughters, Avery (2021) and Audrey (2023).
As a writer, I started jotting down parenting notes since Avery was born.
Why?
Because I found it weird that startups have “Culture & Values” playbook to align the whole company but then families don’t do the same. Wouldn’t it be awesome if our family can have something to guide our principles and actions?
This was how the Kevon’s and Lydia’s Parenting Playbook was born. With just one line at first.
I’m adding and revising this playbook as we go.
I hope this playbook helps parents like you!

Guiding Principles
- Leave no one behind. Not leaving the younger kid out even if she is small
- Let our kids make their own decisions
- Everyone rewards and punishes in a consistent way (parents, grandparents, babysitters)
- Praise for effort instead of natural abilities
- Make helping the community part of our family activities
- Celebrate progress and small wins
- Focus on what we do, not where we go. Create experiences out of nothing
Picking Up Languages
- More exposure = more vocabulary
- New environment = more exposure
- Hanging out with adults and older kids = a great environment
Learning to Learn
- Show them how to ask questions
- Show them how it is okay to ask questions — connect to their topic of interest
Becoming Culturally Aware
- Take our kids to parts of town that are considered “bad” or “poor”
- Invite people from all walks of life into our lives
- Work on fun long-term projects together
